  I need to state what the thesis of this essay is and if its clearly defined, also I need to let the author know what they can do to improve the essay with the content? Humans are peculiar animals. While they fancy themselves as at the “top” of the animal chain, they are in reality the “lowest” animal. Counter-intuitive as it might seem technological advancement and increased “sophistication” has been the demise of the human. They are a diverse species lacking a niche, are dreadfully avaricious, and their “intrinsic goodness” has been corrupted by morals—all because of intelligence. Earth has endured humans’ neglect for thousands of years, but its recovery is slowed by the tricks and cheats that humans have learned. They are unlike any other animal in that they “improve” the land by destroying another’s habitat and continue to develop without recycling. Humans have not only stopped playing by nature’s rules, but have begun making the rules themselves. The number of extinctions humans have caused is unprecedented (through reckless actions like transplanting non-native species)—and it is their intelligence that gives them the ability to make life so hostile to the other animals. These actions are not unbeknownst to the humans, but they live in near-complete disregard of “interfering” life, for it is the obstacle to their happiness. They are truly a loophole in the nature game. Intelligence gives humans the ability to reason out an ideal environment for themselves and the ways of achieving it through the destruction of other life. But what gives humans the drive to do this? How can they have such foresight? The answer again is intelligence. It becomes clear to most animals the amount of food and supplies necessary for their survival. The human case is special. Rather than living in harmony with the environment, humans see survival as an old battle and, in their superior intelligence, have determined that more equals better (thus the unnecessary surpluses). Through this reasoning, humans have created an artificial population with numbers well above the natural limit, and with huge material demands. The social construct—again, a result of intelligence—gave birth to non-essential wants, which quickly became “needs.” This practice comes at an enormous price to other species, as the needs of the human population become more than the environment could support. Further destruction of habitat became needed for the further expansion of humans. This materialistic trend was established in abandon of conscious restraint. The “Moral Sense” is a strange construct. Humans, again in their great “intelligence”, adopted a set of rules governing what actions were “right” or “wrong.” Whatever value was in these rules was quickly overshadowed by the destruction they caused. Humans are capable of love and compassion, but the “Moral Sense” makes an opposite out of every good, and the propagation of these rules ultimately led to the trivial disputes humans fight wars over. A resentment of these rules by almost every individual manifests itself in the cruelties shown toward others each day, for the natural goodness in humans has no place for rules. What other animal shows cruelty to a like member? While most animals compete for survival, they do not show satisfaction in the demise of another. The label of the “lowest” animal is deserved because humans have deviated most from their natural place in the world. While every species must work to ensure its survival, the destruction of others for mere convenience is a trait of humans alone. Furthermore, the kindness shown amongst humans is tarnished by their daily strife, where matters inconsequential to survival are disputed fiercely. These defects have a strong root in intelligence and one can only wonder if intelligence has truly benefited the human race at all.

• Open Question: what does this dream mean? (same person, same setting, different events?)?

  Basically, I met this guy at summer camp 4 years ago, and we've become best friends long distance, and I've fallen in love with him. And when he shows up in my dreams, it's always in the same place-his house. I've never been to his house, it's just implied in the dream that it's his. Guaranteed every time I have a dream with him in it, I go to his house, and we just... hang out. Like it would be if I lived nearer to him. In this house (which is a mansion, his family IS well off, but from what I know, they aren't wealthy to that extent), there is a particular set of stairs that leads to a second story balconied hallway. When facing north, the stairs start going up to the left, then there's a large landing, and they finish going up to the north. Whether I go upstairs with Sam or not, these stairs are in the foyer of this house, therefore: I always see them. Last time I had a dream about him, it was summertime, just like it is now. In this dream, I talked to his dad for a bit (I've actually met his dad, he's a cool dude), ate dinner with his family (again I know all of them) in a robin's egg blue dining room, then we had icecream (xD i feel so silly, but I guess if i want help I need to put every detail), and then for some reason Sam initiated a game of tag with me (completely obnoxious, and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen in real life). He was it and he was chasing me around his house and yard, into his garden, which had a koi pond, very lush green grass and a bed of lillies, roses, daisies, and orchids. I slipped, and he tackled me, and we just burst out laughing. Then I woke up. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. My friends have suggested that I want to have a normal friendship with him so badly that my mind manifested the perfect setting where I can go and have that. I dunno. I think there's something significant about every dream, but I can't quite pin this one down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. xx
